Dear Prospective Personal Trainer,

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit this page. It’s our hope that you have precisely what we need in a Personal Trainer so we can take this page down immediately and welcome you into the fun and rewarding coaching position we have available.

You should have arrived here because you saw our employment opportunity on socials or from an email.

So let’s tell you about us, our company and the coaching position.

We are Richard & Jon Dillon, and we run a premium personal training company called Dillons Premium Fitness Training in Ilkley, which we established in 2010.

Our business is dedicated to helping women and men over 40 achieve their health and fitness goals through our innovative fitness and nutrition programmes.

And business is booming!

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and energetic person to help train some of our current AND future clients!

Everything we do is appointment based and we offer Small Group, 1:1 & 2:1 Personal Training, with small group being our most popular service.  All our programmes include expert fitness coaching, nutrition advice with regular assessments, accountability and support.

All new clients begin with a 28-day Kickstart Programme, which includes an initial health assessment, 28 days 2 x week access to their training of choice before moving onto one of our rolling monthly memberships.

If you are hired for this position, you’ll begin coaching clients in the studio 4-5 days a week. The role will involve early starts, evenings, split shifts and Saturday work. Therefore, you will need a flexible approach to the job because it’s certainly not a 9-5 position!

Bottom line: you’ll get up to 20 hours of training clients per week at £20 per hour. You will be paid as an independent contractor and if you have the ambition and ability, you will have the opportunity to increase your hours and responsibilities as the business grows. Our studio offers a casual, fun environment to work in with an amazing community of members, plus in our opinion it’s the best place in Ilkley to be a trainer!

Oh, and importantly, we are very fair, respectful, and appreciative. We love what we do, like having fun and making money providing highly valuable fitness services and products. You will be compensated fairly, treated fairly, and we will certainly look for ways to pay you more for your efforts if they warrant it. We want someone who enjoys working with people and making a difference in the lives of others…because that’s what we do in our studio.

The requirements of the Role

  • Develop comprehensive health and fitness programmes for clients. You’ll receive coaching and training on our fitness system and programmes, but you’ll have the flexibility to incorporate your training style and programme planning knowledge, into all the services that we offer.

  • Tracking client progress. To ensure a client’s success in our programmes, you’ll need to track weekly progress, current successes and challenges, review client nutrition and exercise log worksheets, and more on a weekly basis. It will be your job to hold a client accountable to his/her health and fitness programme to ensure the best results possible.

  • Perform fitness evaluations. Ideally, you’ll have some fitness assessment skills and can test for: body composition, body weight, girth measurements, and various strength and flexibility tests. You do not need previous experience, as training will be given, but if you do, that’s a bonus.

  • Coach clients through the 28 day kickstart programme. You’ll be responsible for weekly exercise sessions and keeping detailed weekly progress reports on the clients you’re working with. If a client is having challenges throughout his/her programme, you’ll coach and motivate them and make appropriate changes to ensure consistent progress.

  • Demonstrate proper exercise instruction. This is a big one. We need you to be able to provide proper coaching, instruction, and motivation during the delivery of all our services. By this we mean Small Group, 2:1 & 1:1 Personal Training. Again, training will be given to show you the Dillon’s way, but we want your personality to shine through so clients can appreciate your talents. You should also have a working knowledge of the human body (i.e. muscles, movements, functions, etc.) and be able to provide appropriate exercises for client’s goals.

  • Provide ongoing health and fitness education. Our clients rely on us to service all their health and fitness needs. It is your job as a fitness coach to provide your clients with health and fitness education on various topics that empower them to lead healthy lives forever. You’ll be provided with educational tools and resources, be expected to study them, and speak about them with your clients. We also spend time covering this in our weekly staff meetings.

Required Skills

These are the skills you must already have to qualify for this position:

  • Great communication skills. You will be talking with our clients, who are VERY VERY important to us. You must be comfortable conversing in groups, 2:1 & 1:1 scenarios and on the phone. You’ll know how to conduct yourself professionally and deliver clear instructions to the clients. We’ll teach you everything you need to do during a training session, but I can’t teach you manners and professionalism.

  • People skills and personality. You must LOVE working with people! As mentioned above you must be very comfortable working with people. This is an exciting studio, and you must be able to show your clients enthusiasm, energy and excitement while working with them. We need to be the best part of their day and YOU are going to be the main reason for this.

  • Health and fitness education. You must hold a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification and have at least 3 years’ experience under your belt.

Bonus Skills

If you have these additional skills, your resume will go right to the top of the stack (but if you don’t have these skills, you should still apply because they are certainly not mandatory).

  • Yoga or Pilates Qualification and experience
  • Group Exercise Qualification & Experience
  • Basic nutrition knowledge
  • CPR certified
  • A strong social media presence
